Corgi Beagle Mix – Everything You Need to Know

Corgi Beagle mix is a designer dog crossbred between the cheerful Beagle and the feisty Corgi. Corgi Beagle mix puppies pop out with an array of features that can be different from one another. This may be because the Beagle is crossbred with either Pembroke Welsh Corgi or the Cardigan Welsh Corgi. However,  everything depends on the gene game. Also called the Beagi, this dog breed is gaining popularity as a designer breed among other famous dog breeds. Despite being popular or not, Corgi Beagle puppies carry their parent’s best traits and form a loyal, affectionate and lively family companion.

The parent breed Beagle is an active and fun-loving medium-sized scent dog. They were bred to be hunting dogs and primarily used to hunt hares and rabbits. As a fact, Beagles have approximately 220 million scent receptors that help them follow and smell any scent. In addition, Beagles are gentle, playful, and compact. Though Beagles belong to the hunting group, their petite size, gentleness, floppy ears, and expressive puppy eyes make them appealing as family pets.

The other parent breed, Corgis, can be traced back to the medieval periods in Wales and was bred as herding and working dogs. They are cute, fluffy with striking bright orange coats, and known to be loving companions. There are two types of Corgis – Cardigan and Pembroke Corgi, of which Pembroke is the most popular breed. They were beloved family members of the Royal family of England for a long time and were kept, bred, and loved by Queen Elizabeth II for most of her life.

Beagi, the little nuggets, love to lounge around with their families with their short bodies and floppy ears that make them the cute, cuter, and cutest.

Corgi Beagle Mix Personality

Corgi Beagles are mixed breed dogs that grow 8-12 inches and weigh about 10-20 inches. The puppies vary in appearance depending on the corgi parent type and beagle parent. Yet, there are certain standard features seen in Beagi pups. They have an elongated body, and their legs are longer than the usual Corgi. The long legs give a balanced appearance. Depending on which parent they take after, they have pointy ears or floppy ears. However, the common chance is a Beagi with a floppy ear. The tail is long, and they have beautiful big puppy eyes. The eyes are mostly brown, and the nose is black.

Beagis are double-coated. The coat is soft and dense with short to medium-length fur. They are non-hypoallergenic and shed moderately, especially during the fall and spring. Their coat colors are tan, fawn, red, black, yellow, white, sable, and orange. Overall, Corgi Beagles look like the king of a Castle with features that will melt all hearts.

Corgi Beagle Mix Temperament

Corgi Beagle mixes are playful, loving, and affectionate. They are brilliant and protective of their owners. Beagis get along well with kids and other pets with early socialization. But they don’t fit in families with smaller pets like cats and rabbits due to their high prey drive.

Beagis fit into families of any size. They cannot tolerate loneliness and suffer from separation anxiety. However, these sweet-natured puppies are bouncy, family-friendly, and perfect companions to humans of all ages.

Corgi Beagle Training

Corgi Beagles are easy to train and are quick learners. Like any other dog breed, they require early socialization and proper training. However, they are intelligent and obedient, and with positive reinforcement, Beagis become the perfect puppy to share your home. It may require more patience and time to teach these puppies commands, but with a professional trainer, training becomes easy. They love playtime and tricks, and this mental stimulation keeps these dogs happy.

Beagis rarely bark and howl now and then, inheriting their Beagle parent’s trait. However, they may whine or howl when communicating with other pets, dogs, and people.

Corgi Beagle Exercise Need

Corgi Beagles are generally energetic dogs and require lots of daily exercise. Yet their activity level may vary from dog to dog. Some may be highly active, while some may be lazy and laid back. A daily walk of 30- 60 minutes is ideal, and lots of playtime keeps them healthy. They love outdoor activities like playing at the dog parks, playing at the beach, agility courses, and playing with interactive toys.

Corgi Beagles Grooming

Corgi Beagles are easy to groom, and the coat needs to be brushed 2-3 times per week. Brushing helps remove clump hair and pull out the loose fur during shedding. One of the essential parts of grooming is bathing which keeps the dog clean. However, frequent bathing causes dry skin and itches. Bathing your dog using pH-balanced shampoos and pet wipes will keep your dog’s coat fresh, clean, and shiny. You can also bathe them once a week. However, daily brushing helps to keep the fur from knots and tangles

Corgi Beagle Health

Corgi Beagles are healthy dogs and may not develop any health concerns. Still, it always helps to know when to take your pup to the vet.

Hip Dysplasia: Hip dysplasia is outwardly a painful disease that occurs when the bones of the back legs do not fit properly in the joints. While some dogs will exhibit symptoms, the majority of canines will not. Hip dysplasia is primarily genetic, although other causes such as accidents, excessive weight gain, and inappropriate training can also cause it. Even though this disease is fatal, therapies range from medicine to hip replacement surgery. To avoid this problem, avoid breeding dogs with hip dysplasia parentage and get annual examinations.

Other Causes of Hip Dysplasia:

  • Injuries
  • Excessive weight gain
  • Wrong exercises
  • This condition causes defects or damage to the hip bones and joints and worsens without treatment.

Symptoms of hip dysplasia in dogs include:

  • Reduced activity and movements
  • Reluctance to rise, jump, run, or climb
  • Lameness in the hind limbs
  • Reducing thigh muscle mass
  • Swaying, “bunny hopping” gait
  • Grating in the joint during movement
  • Enlarging shoulders
  • Pain
  • Stiffness

Epilepsy: Idiopathic epilepsy is a common hereditary disorder. It frequently causes seizures, ranging from mild to severe. In addition, unusual behaviors may indicate a stroke, such as frantically fleeing as threatened, stumbling, or hiding.  Seizures frighten, but dogs with idiopathic epilepsy have a relatively good long-term outlook. Other than unexplained epilepsy, seizures can be induced by metabolic disorders, respiratory illnesses of the brain, malignancies, toxin poisoning, and severe traumatic injury.

Intervertebral disc disease: Beagis inherit this disease from the parent breeds. The disc that separates the spine’s backbone weakens over time and affects the spinal nerve. This causes severe pain and is life-threatening.

Patellar Luxation: It is also known as “slipped stifles,” a common problem in small dog breeds that is caused when the patella, which has three parts-the femur (thigh bone), patella (knee cap), and tibia (calf) — is not correctly bounded. This leads to lameness in the leg or an abnormal gait, like a hop or a skip. This condition is caused by birth, although the misalignment or luxation does not always occur much later. In addition, the rubbing caused by patellar luxation leads to arthritis. There are four patellar luxation grades, ranging from phase I, an occasional luxation causing unstable lameness in the joint, to grade IV, where the turning of the tibia is heavy, and you cannot realign the patella manually. This gives your dog a bow-legged appearance. Uphill grades of patellar luxation may require surgery.

Hypothyroidism: Low thyroid levels in dogs cause overweight issues and become weak, dull, and not life-threatening

Von Willebrand’s Disease: This genetic blood disorder impairs the blood’s ability to clot. The primary symptom is excessive bleeding after surgery. Nosebleeds, bleeding jaws, and intestinal or bowel bleeding are some of the signs and consequences. There is still no cure, and the only option is a transfusion from healthy canines. New treatments, including medicine, are being investigated. Most dogs with Von Willebrand’s syndrome can lead everyday lives. You must take your dog to the vet for diagnosis.

Obesity: It is a significant health condition in Corgi Beagles. Excess weight can cause joint problems, back pain, digestive disorders, and heart disease. The best way to prevent this lifestyle disease is a healthy diet and regular exercise.

Ear Infections: This is most common in dogs with floppy ears. Fungi and bacteria can cause ear infections to thrive in the warmth and darkness provided.

Spay or Neuter: In spay, the ovaries or uterus in females is removed, and in the neuter, the testicles of the male dogs are removed. It eliminates the possibility of pregnancy or fathering unwanted puppies and decreases the likelihood of certain types of cancer.

Corgi Beagle Mix Diet and Nutrition

Corgi Beagles are high-bred dogs and need a large quantity of high-quality food. They should eat 1-2 cups of food every day. Each puppy is distinctive, and the correct amount and quality of food depend on their age, weight, activity level, health, and more. You can split the meals into two 2 cups daily. Beagi pups can be given dry food, wet food, or both. You can also feed them with fruits and vegetables that provide carbohydrate energy. Never hesitate to consult a vet to meet your pup’s dietary requirements to keep them happy and healthy.

Corgi Beagle Living Condition

Corgi Beagles love to be around their humans. However, they are adaptable and can live in apartments or homes with bigger yards. They love outdoor activities like walking, running, playing,  and hiking. They love the attention of their owners and suffer from separation anxiety when left alone. They are fond of playing with kids and other pets. Beagis can tolerate heat and cold temperatures equally.

Adding Corgi Beagle to Your Family

It is best to check with the puppy’s parents to ensure his health and happiness. Always remember the following red flags to avoid backyard breeders and puppy mills.

  • Puppies are available around the year.
  • You can choose from a variety of litter that is always available.
  • One will be promised any puppy they want.
  • We recommend you visit the puppy and his parents and get health clearance and vaccination certificates, to avoid purchasing a weaker puppy.
